The Reel Life Of Bollywood

It’s been almost 84 years since the start of Bombay Talkies. It is a stepping stone of the revolution of film. The rise of film making and acting has become a frontline profession. When we compare a movie that has launched in the year 2020 to a movie launched back in 1940, we can see many differences in direction, locations, acting and most importantly in the story. Differences in directions can be seen due to the upgradation in technology, devices and the direction techniques that changes from time to time. The locations used in old films were mostly Indian. Nowadays it’s mostly in foreign countries.

Today, the major source of entertainment is movies and web series. The common belief among the millennials is to stay updated. There’s a race to watch everything that is trending and then discuss it. The 2 main OTT platforms are Netflix and Amazon Prime. Netflix has each and every genre in various languages with different actors in it. Additionally, it also has BBC documentaries. But there is neither any discussion about documentaries nor real life achievement stories. It’s only about romance, abuse and action.

The age group of 18-25 is the most productive age. It’s the pioneer age from achieving success to becoming a corporate slave. The young minds are not able to differentiate between reel and real. They are exposed to the reel world from a very young age and they want to adapt the same in real life. The youth of India is always looking for something that is beyond one’s grab. Dreaming is good but baseless dreaming can harm one’s sentiment. The actors who work in this industry have a huge psychological impact on people which can inspire, guide, motivate or rule one’s mind and can even mislead people.

Bollywood mainly focuses on love story and action films. The love story shown in movies is depicted in the way where utmost priority of the actor and actress is only love and attraction. The whole life revolves around love and rejection. Generally, after going through a heartbreak, millennials either take an emerging road or a degrading road. Many tend to fall prey to addictions like drugs etc. Others challenge themselves by cracking the toughest competitive exams, one of which is UPSC. Encouraging someone to do drugs is as bad as taking drugs yourself.

Impact On Youth :

The youth is driven by the foreign culture shown in movies. They are more likely to be adapted by the younger generation more rapidly as they get attracted towards it. But at what cost? At the cost of losing our traditional culture. Our traditional culture of visiting temple, touching elders’ feet on special days like birthdays, anniversaries is taken away by throwing lavish parties, visiting clubs, opening champagne bottles. It is not necessary to party to be happy. Instead, the valuable time can be spent with parents – to cherish memories and to strengthen the bond. Socialising is important but not by forgetting our moral ethics.

Love Stories :

The so-called Rom – Com genre of Bollywood revolves around an actress being followed by actor with no future worries or family pressure, which is portrayed in a beautiful, sweet and innocent story. But the actual fact of stalking is hidden. Stalking is never acceptable. In real life, people only follow the initial part of movie but after rejection, they can’t withstand it, that further leads to molestation, rape and acid attack. The idea portrayed by Bollywood doesn’t help to ease the societal problems at all.

Promoting Nudity :

Indian Government banned 🚫 porn sites way back in 2015. But they forgot to ban nude scenes or half-baked nude scenes in movies and web series. Nudity is in trend nowadays. The adult certification is just for the name sake. Each and everything is pirated and available on different platforms. The censor board is not so strict. By showing a half scene, teenagers are attracted towards it, which triggers the use of pirated websites. The upcoming technology and upcoming youth both are far more advanced and forward.

As rightly said:
Every coin has two sides,
Every human has two faces,
Every story has two perspectives.

We can’t judge anything by knowing one side. It takes two hands to clap! No one can be solemnly blamed. It’s equal responsibility of parents to look upon their children. At the end it’s people’s choice to see and what not to see. As a whole country we should promote good and movies which are worth and protect beliefs and social ethics and practical movies which help to grow and develop society as a whole.

I have written this blog on the basis of my belief, my thoughts and my view point. If I have mistaken any point or have hurt anyone’s feelings, then please accept my apology. Everyone has a different point of view and I respect that. Such controversial topic discussions are endless.

As said in a popular BOLLYWOOD movie,
“Jab tak iss desh me cinema he, tab tak log C**** bante rahenge.”
